Bass-baritone Mark S. Doss as <i>Jochanaan</i> in Salome

Making his debut at Italy's famed Arena di Verona as Escamillo in Carmen, Mark S. Doss will follow with another debut at Florence's Teatro del Maggio as Jochanaan in Salome.

Also, having made his role debut as Balstrode in Peter Grimes with Teatro Regio Torino, he made debuts at Madrid's Teatro Real and Bologna's Teatro Comunale as Jochanaan, while additionally debuting at Teatro La Fenice in Venice as Premysl in Sárka.

Impressively he opened the current season as Jochanaan in his house debut with the Deutsche Staastoper Berlin.

Upcoming engagements include Jochanaan (Salome) with Teatro del Maggio in Florence and with Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Klingsor in Teatro Regio Torino's Parsifal, and Méphistophélés in Faust with the Santa Fe Opera.

Highlights of other recent seasons include a Royal Opera House debut as Amonasro in (Aida), a debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in Peter Grimes, the Title Role in Boito’s Mefistofele with Oper Frankfurt, Escamillo in his debut at Teatro alla Scala, the title role in Handel’s Giulio Cesare with Cleveland Opera, the bass soloist in Bach’s Magnificat with the Seattle Symphony, the bass-baritone soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Baltimore Symphony (under the direction of Bobby McFerrin), and Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Cathedral Choral Society at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
